Lakes, rivers and creeks of the Frontenac Arch Biosphere
Within the boundary of the Frontenac Arch Biosphere Region there are over 220 named Lakes, 2 major rivers (Cataraqui River and Gananoque River), approximately 80 Creeks, and hundreds of small unnamed water bodies. These bodies of water provide habitat for many of the species found within the biosphere. They also provide a way to get outside and explore the biosphere from the water!
Watersheds of the Frontenac Arch Biosphere
Frontenac Arch Biosphere encompasses four different tertiary watersheds (Cataraqui, Rideau, Napanee, and Upper St. Lawrence – Thousand Islands).
Watersheds are delineated by an area of land that catches rain and snow and drains or seeps into the same place such as the St Lawrence River (through marshes, streams, rivers, lakes, or groundwater).
